Your “Lovingest” 2023: Avoid the Number 1 Mistake that Will Derail Your Power Over Porn

How to Make 2023 a year of living a loving (porn-free) life and not get derailed.

Porn is not only one of the hardest habits to overcome, it is one of the easiest to fall back into once overcome. Over the years, I’ve observed one big mistakes that often leads to relapse (there are others, but this one is the biggest):

So what is the number one mistake? Lack of Humility. Once viewers think, “I’ve got this,” they are ready to relapse. When a viewer begins to think that they are cured because they haven’t viewed porn in a while, the arrogance of a “cure” sets them up for failure. When one thinks they’re cured, they tend to let their guard down, stop their daily practice and put themselves in positions of high temptation. High temptations can be overcome with the Power Over Porn simple practice steps, but if you’re out of practice and a strong temptation hits, relapse can happen before you can catch it.

The answer of course is staying humble. When you realize that the old porn-viewing highway still exists in your brain wiring, you practice every day to keep it unlit and in a state of non-travel. You review the consequences, answer every temptation, accept it as normal and choose your personal vision. One other step that you take when you’re humble, you rehearse temptation scenarios that may happen and envision yourself overcoming the fake temptation. Then, when the real on hits, you’re well-practiced and can dispatch it with AACV (Answer, Accept, Choose, Vision–if you’re unfamiliar with AACV, check out the Power Over Pornography book).

As we begin 2023, let’s all remember to stay humble. Viewing has too many negative consequences to risk relapsing due to a lack of humility. May you have a very loving 2023!
